Medical Eyeglass Center Named First ASOA Optical Dispensary Development Diamond Sponsor for 2026

A new national collaboration will help ophthalmic administrators evaluate optical as a clinical, operational, and financial asset
by Medical Eyeglass Center

Medical Eyeglass Center (MEC) has become the American Society of Ophthalmic Administrators’ first Optical Dispensary Development Diamond Strategic Business Partner for 2026. The relationship reflects a shared commitment to helping ophthalmic administrators strengthen patient care, operational performance, and the role optical plays within the complete vision-care journey.

For MEC, the partnership is larger than sponsorship visibility. It creates a national platform for education, conversation, and practical resources focused on an area that more than 70 percent of ophthalmology practices currently provide, but many leadership teams do not have the time or specialized infrastructure to optimize.

Why Optical Deserves Executive Attention

Ophthalmology practices continue to invest in diagnostics, surgical technology, physician recruitment, patient access, and new treatment capabilities. Yet the patient’s final visual outcome may still depend on what happens after the examination and prescription.

A well-managed optical dispensary can reinforce the physician’s recommendation, improve continuity of care, and give patients a trusted environment in which to complete their treatment plan. It can also contribute meaningful retained earnings and enterprise value. When optical is disconnected from the clinical mission or lacks dedicated operating attention, the practice may miss opportunities in patient experience, performance, and profitability.

Supporting Administrators Wherever They Are

The MEC and ASOA relationship is intended to support administrators regardless of how their optical is managed today. Some organizations have the internal resources and expertise to operate optical successfully. Others are evaluating whether a co-sourced relationship could provide additional leadership, staffing, capital, analytics, and accountability.

The common need is access to useful information. Administrators should be able to understand how their optical performs, where opportunities exist, and what operating model best supports their patients and organizational goals. Education and benchmarking can help leaders make that decision from a position of clarity rather than assumption.

Educate Integrate Optimize

The collaboration is organized around three practical priorities.

Educate means expanding awareness of optical’s role in best corrected vision, patient continuity, practice performance, and leadership strategy.

Integrate means connecting optical more intentionally with physicians, clinical teams, administrators, workflows, and the patient experience.

Optimize means using accountable leadership, data, training, staffing, product strategy, and disciplined operations to improve both the patient experience and financial results.

A National Conversation About Optical

Throughout 2026, MEC will work with ASOA and experienced ophthalmic administrators to contribute educational content, peer perspectives, benchmarking concepts, and practical conversations about optical. The goal is not to prescribe one answer for every practice. It is to help leadership teams ask better questions and evaluate their current model with greater confidence.

Among those questions: Does the optical experience reflect the quality of the clinical practice? Is the patient handoff consistent? Can leadership measure capture rate and profitability accurately? Does optical have the staffing and operational resources it needs? Is the department supporting the practice’s promise of best corrected vision?

A Shared Commitment

MEC has supported ophthalmology practices since 1978 through a co-sourced optical management model designed to bring specialized leadership and resources to the dispensary while preserving the practice’s identity and patient relationship. Becoming ASOA’s first Optical Dispensary Development Diamond Strategic Business Partner extends that commitment to the broader administrator community.

The opportunity ahead is to elevate optical from a departmental afterthought to an intentional part of the clinical and business strategy. Through education, integration, and optimization, MEC and ASOA can help practice leaders deliver a stronger, more connected experience for the patients they serve.
